Couples Golf Results for April 29th, 2012

What a beauty day at National for our April Couples Golf event.  We had an excellent showing with 28 players vying for the coveted crown of couples golf champion!

First we will start with the closest to the hole winners for the day.  On the Men's side we had closest to the hole contests for #2 & #17.  Dwayne Ayers hit one in there close on #2 to score the $10 credit for that hole.  I did happen to look at their teams scorecard and noticed they did not make a birdie on that hole.  I asked their de facto team captain, Mark Watson what happened and he commented "we didn't make the put."  You just can't argue with that logic.  Hole #17 was taken by Dr. Russell Stokes who stiffed it in their so close even I could have made that put.  Nice work guys!  On the ladies side it was a one Woman show with Maureen Buckley collecting both prizes on holes #9 & #12.  Great work Mo!

Now on to the official results of the day.  In the third place position we had the team of Tim & Maureen Buckley paired with Steve & Susie Points.  They shot a respectable 58.5 to collect some third place scratch.  Tim, I still can't find that long drive prize for #11.  I'll let you know if it turns up.

The second place team consisted of Steve & Lorraine Schwerin along with Joel & Cindy Tew.  They carded a 57.2 to take home the enormous amount of sweeps credit for that position.  Don't spend it all in one place.  Oh that's right you can only spend it in one place.  It's a good thing the Pro has such an excellent selection of quality merchandise at such reasonable prices.

Finally our Champions of the day scoring an impressive 55.6 was the team of Russell & Stephanie Stokes and Tom & Tracy Lorenz.  Rumor has it they were leaning pretty hard on Russ for his long driving capabilities.

Congratulations to all of our winners and thanks to all the Couples who played in the April Couples Golf event.

Best,

Dave
Not sure what was going on here but the result was a missed putt.  I am very impressed though with the patience
displayed by Tom Boals while his wife Cindy received an on course putting lesson from Team Finegold.

After encouraging The Watson's & The Ayers' to speed up the pace a bit, Karen quickly responds by draining a 30 footer and stating to me, "how is that for picking up the pace!"  Nice putt!

I think I will start calling Mr. Schwerin Ice Man because he so cooley stepped up to this 35 footer from off the green and put it right in the bottom of the cup!  Now that is what I call cool.

Mo Buckley rifling one into the 15th green here while her loyal band of supporters looks on.

I think I have discovered the secret to why Dr. Stokes hits it so long off the tee.  If you look closely here you will see he is hitting one of those new TaylorMade RBZ drivers.  I think everyone should run right out and buy one from their friendly neighborhood PGA Golf Professional!

Can you just feel the pressure this team is laying on Angus McEachen to make this put?  It is a good thing he is as cool as the other side of the pillow!

Men's Day Results for April 28th, 2012

A bit of a thin showing for Men's Day this week with only 15 total players today.  My theory is that everyone saw Tom Lorenz and Jack Maisano signed up and figured they had no chance of winning.  Well that premonition came true today.  They both continued their dominance in the Stableford format by besting their quota for the 4th week straight.  Big Tom went +5 over his quota to Tie Mr. Ice (Peter Vanica) for the top spot on the Stableford game.  Mike Girimont, Dave Dunn & Dick "the Terminator" Tilley were tied for the 3rd place position with +3 with Jack Maisano rounding out the players besting their quota with a +2.  We will see if Maisano and Lorenz can make it 5 weeks in a row next week, stay tuned.....

In the team game today we had the format of Whack & Hack.  The teams were combining their low net ball with their high net ball to make up their total team score.  It was not much of a challenge for the first place team of Dunn, Lorenz, Tilley & Vanica since they all beat their points and pretty much dominated every other category in today's Men's Day.  They had a team score of 146 which blew away the field with the next closest team 8 shots back.  Great work guys!

In the Skins competition we had lots of winners for a small group with 14 total skins out.  Mr. Ice cornered the market with 5 skins all coming on his front 9 where he started with a birdie on #1 and finished with Eagle on #8 and birdie on #9.  We won't talk about the hoes in between but he did manage to scrape out an even par 36 on the first 9 holes.  Dick Tilley managed to wrangle 3 skins into his pocket with some consistent play throughout the day.

The Pro is inching his way back to respectability with only two players besting him today.  Congratulations to Tom Lorenz and Peter Vanica for achieving such an extraordinary feat!

Thanks to everyone for playing in the event today.

Next week Men's Day will begin at 9am with tee times because of the Kentucky Derby Scramble.  Please feel free to sign up for either event by calling the pro shop or emailing us.

Don't forget to sign up for the Men's Match Play events.  I am trying to get all the sign ups done by next week so we can get the matches underway.

Yesterday we had some records set in our Men's Day event with many players shooting lights out and posting some low numbers.  It is hard to talk about just one or two players when so many played so well.  We had 7 players out of 22 break 80 and two of those players shooting under par with one carding a four under par 68!

Lets start with the player who bogied the last two holes he played and still managed to shoot one under par 71 and take the lions share of the skins pot with 3 total skins Dr. Andy Summers.  Dr. Summers also captured 2nd place in the 2 man blind draw game with sharp shooting Jack Maisano as his partner who went +6 on his stableford which is the second week in a row Mr. Maisano has destroyed his stableford quota. Great work guys!!  We had a log jam at the third place spot in the 2 man blind draw game with Dr. Stokes and Tom Lorenz shooting 62 along with Rick Finnin & Bill Womble as well as Richard Gais & Ed Heflin rounding out the other teams that carded a 62 to take a piece of the 3rd place pie.

It would usually be a landfall victory in the Stableford competition to go 9 points over your quota like Tom Lorenz did yesterday, which makes it three weeks in a row that he has wrecked his quota for some big cash payout, but We had a player who downright dominated Men's Day today.  Steve Ahlfeld started the day with a bogey and ended the day with a bogey but everything in between was quite excellent I must say.  Steve was going along swimmingly at just one over par until his first birdie on the sixth hole.  Then the floodgates opened and he played the next 11 holes with 5 more birdies and no bogie's.  He completely destroyed his stableford quota going 14 points over and collecting first place in the 2 Man game with the Dunner (Dave Dunn) as his partner who helped him out on a couple holes to capture the title by one shot over Summers and Maisano.  Great Playing Steve!!

We had 14 people go over their stableford quota today which has got to be a record.  So based on that news given the Pro was right on his quota it would be an appropriate statement to say that he took quite a beating in the Beat the Pro game.  Better luck next week I guess.  Check out the results sheet below for complete details on everyone's play.

Thanks for everyone playing today.  Next weeks format is a 4 person team game
of Whack and Hack.  You take the low net ball and combine it with the high net ball to get the teams score.  Net double bogey will be max score and the Pro Shop will make up the teams.  The play will commence with a 10am shotgun start.  I hope to see you there.

Best,

Dave

Andy Summers, Richard Gais, Bob Thome and Ed Heflin playing sizing up their putts on the 2nd green.

Welcome to the bad lies club Mr. Blank.  Somebody should have put sand in that one I think.

Now that is going to be a divot that may require a whole bottle of sand!

Peter Vanica making his second birdie in a row on the 9th hole en route to making three in a row.  I couldn't get him to do the turkey dance though.

Men's Day Results for April 14th, 2012

What a beautiful day we had today for the Men's Day at National.  We had a nice showing of 23 players come out to enjoy the spectacular day.  The format for the day was Skins, Stableford, Beat the Pro and Our team game for the day was Combined Stableford of the 4 player team.

The golf course was in tip top shape and the team of Steve Ahlfeld, Pat Molamphy and John Doster took advantage of it.  They had the help of a blind draw partner and took the top spot in the team game with a score of 164 combined stableford points.  The second place finishers were not far behind at 160.  That team was Jack Maisano, Jim Arnold, Don Hearn & Steve Schwerin.  The second place team was helped imensley by todays leading money winner Jack Maisano who has been cashing a check almost every Men's Day this year so far.  He went wild on his stableford points by going 13 over his quota.  Nice work Jack!

The Skins game was dominated by Tim Buckley who had 3 total skins. Nice work Mr. B!

The Beat the Pro game had 7 players besting the Pro today.

Thanks to everyone who played today and hope to see you next week.

Next week will be tee times starting at 10am but remember you can play any time during the day as long as you play with another Men's Day participant.  The format will be 2 player better ball net blind draw.

All the best,

Dave

Men's Day Results for April 7th 2012

A chamber of commerce day at National for the Men's Day on Saturday.  The format was Stableford, Beat the Pro and Skins along with the Pick a Pro from the Masters field.  As you know anyone who picked Lefty was at a significant advantage over the rest of the field.  This was to include Mr. Pat Molamphy who took home 1st place honors in the Pick a Pro game by combining his net score of 72 with Phil Michelson's Saturday round of 66 for a total of 138.  Following closely on his heals were  Tom Lorenz and John Doster  who also picked 3 time Masters Champion Phil Mickelson to take the 2nd place spot at 140.  The last paying spots for that event was a three way tie for 4th with Mark Packard shooting a nice round of Net 69.  Unfortunately he let his heart instead of his head make his pick of Freddy Couples who struggled to a finish of 75 for a combined total of 144.  Ron Coffman Jr. combined his score of net 72 with Tiger Woods ho hum round of 72 to take another of the 4th place spots.  Dave Dunn who had some ups and downs today turned in a net score of 78 but with a little help from Phil he eked into that last paying spot with a 144 total.  Great job guys!  In the Stableford department we had only 4 players better their quota with the leading money winner of the day Big Tom Lorenz going +8 over his quota.  He was followed by Ron Coffman Jr. who finished the day 3-3-3 to go +4 on his quota.  The only other people to get their points were Jack Maisano & Pat Molamphy who both went +2 on their quota's.

The Skins pool had only 7 total skins out with Rick Roberts and Pat Molamphy each getting two skins followed by Mark Packard, Tom Lorenz and Jack Maisano getting 1 skin each.

The Beat the Pro game today had 4 people besting the pro.  The pro was right on his stableford quota so the only ones beating him were those that went over their quota.  Here they are again if you missed it earlier
Tom Lorenz, Ron Coffman Jr., Jack Maisano & Pat Molamphy.

Thanks to everyone for playing in the Men's Day.  Next week we are a 10am Shotgun start and the format will be combined stableford of the four player team.  Be there or be square.

Best,

Dave
